Baseball is Back in Connecticut

The new season for the Hartford Yard Goats is a special one. Reaching the tenth campaign of the team in Hartford is special, and doing it as one of the best Minor League Ballparks in the US. Having been in ballparks in the US in different capacities, including six Major League counting Toronto, and several Double A, Triple A and Independent League stadiums, I can tell that the community engagement of the Chivos is a game changer.

It was special that the Hero Amongst Us session of the game paid tribute to none in particular, but to people who served in the military, first responders or teachers, making a difference in the country. It was cold, to the point that my fingers got numb.

The Goats (Colorado Rockies) lost the home opener against the Chesapeake BaySox (Baltimore Orioles), and the crowd was not as big as it normally is, probably because of the cold. However, the spirit and vibe of Dunkin’ Park was as special as ever.

For me, there was a double pleasure, as Cubans Dyan Jorge and Andy Pérez manned the left side of the infield, the first time I have seen something like that happen. On top of it all, Jorge got the first hit and the first steal of the season for the Chivos.
